Born at Derby. Son of Thomas and Mary Chesham, of Shelton Cottages, Greenwich, London. He lived at Ripley, Nottinghamshire. Was a labourer. Enlisted at Derby on 31st August 1914 and went to Gallipoli on 29th August 1915. On the 9th December 1915, he was treated at the 26th Casualty Clearing Station at Imbros, Turkey for frostbite and transferred to the Hospital Ship Barry on 10th December 1915. He then went to a convalescent home at Boulac al Dacour, Egypt 14th January 1916 and then to England per Hospital Ship Salta from Alexandria on 15th January 1916. On recovery, he went to France on 10th March 1916. He suffered a shrapnel wound to his leg on 3rd September 1916 and was treated at No. 2 Canadian General Hospital, Le Treport, France before being invalided to England per Hospital Ship Salta on 6th September 1916. He returned to France on 31st January 1917 and was killed in action on 4th November 1918.
