Lance Corporal Joseph Charlton

Battalion : 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Samuel Charlton, of 40 Mount Street, Mansfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Derby. He went to France on 8th September 1914 with the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was later transferred to the 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 22nd October 1916, during operations near Authuille, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
