Born in Newstead, Nottinghamshire. Son of Charles and Emma Chapple, of “The Bungalow “, Wood Lane, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. He was a booking clerk, for the Midland Railway prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 29, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
