Born at Norwich and lived at 31 Heywood Avenue, South Lambeth, London. Son of Richard and Mary Ann Chapman, of 8 Reeves Yard, Oak Street, Norwich. He was a printer prior to enlisting 4th January 1916 in London. He went to France on 12th March 1916 and was transferred to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 4th November 1917. He was admitted to No. 9 General Hospital, Rouen, 28th March 1918 suffering from wounds and contusions. He rejoined his battalion on 26th May 1918 and was admitted to No. 5 General Hospital, Rouen on 25th June 1918, suffering from fever. He rejoined his battalion on 16th September 1918 and was killed in action, 14th October 1918, aged 30, in the attack on Cable Copse, Belgium.
