Born and lived at North Wingfield, Derbyshire. Son of Jesse and Frances Elizabeth Caunt of North Wingfield. He was an errand boy prior to enlisting at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
