Born 22nd October 1895 at Sparkbrook, Birmingham. Son of William James and Lucy Carty, of 8 Guys Cliff Terrace, Warwick. He was a draughtsman for the Great Western Railway at Warwick Station. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant 12th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 26th February 1915 and went to France 10th February 1916. He was killed in action, 21st August 1916, aged 20, whilst serving in the line at Bernafay Wood, France during the Battle of the Somme.
