Born at Derby. Husband of Ellen South (formerly Cartwright), of 43, Mount Castle Street, Willington Moor, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He enlisted at Chesterfield and went to Gallipoli 1st July 1915 and was killed in action, 9th August 1915, age 29, in the attack at Ismail Oglu Tepe, (Chocolate Hill), Gallipoli, Turkey.
