Born at Wemstead, Ware, Hertfordshire and lived at Sacombe Hill, Ware, Hertfordshire. Son of Herbert Augustus and Elizabeth Carter, of Wemstead, Ware, Hertfordshire. He enlisted 12th June 1915 and went to France 8th July 1917. He was transferred to the 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 27th July 1917 and was killed in action 26th September 1917, aged 19. during the attack on Wieltje, Belgium.

Buried : White House Cemetery, St. Jean-Les-Ypres, Belgium. Plot 3, Row H. Grave 27.
