Born and lived in Nottingham. Husband of Nellie Gertrude Carter, of 67 Holborn Avenue, Sneinton, Nottingham. He was a commercial traveller prior to enlisting on 13th December 1915 at Nottingham. He was appointed Lance Corporal 30th August 1916, promoted Corporal 14th November 1916. He went to France on 14th August 1917 and was promoted to Sergeant on 29th November 1917. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
