Private George Carter

Battalion: 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Bulwell, Nottingham. Son of William and Emma Carter, of 39 Crown Street, Bulwell. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 8th September 1914 at Hucknall, He went to France on 10th May 1916 and was reported as suffering from shellshock on 28th June 1916. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions near Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
