He was born at Derby, Son of Samuel and Mary Carr, of 35 Foundry Street, Derby. Was a Foundry Labourer prior to enlisting on 1st April 1914 at Derby. He went to France 25th February 1915 and suffered shrapnel wounds to his chest and left leg on the 15th May 1915. He was treated at No. 8 Casualty Clearing Station, Balleul, France and died, 25th May 1915, aged 21, at Rawal Pindi British General Hospital Wimereux, France.

His brother Private Harry Carr, 6th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment also fell in the Great War.
