Private John Callaghan

Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Derby. Son of Joseph and Ellen, Callaghan, of Court 2, Walker Lane, Derby. He was a general labourer prior to enlisting 5th June 1908 at Derby. He served in East Indies, 29th September 1911 to 2nd September 1914. He went to France 4th November 1914 and suffered frostbite and was wounded in action twice. He was killed in action, 17th August 1917, whilst serving in the line near Westhoek and Bellewaarde Ridge, Belgium.
