Born at Camberwell, Surrey and lived at Letchworth, Hertfordshire. Son of James Calcroft, of 48, Ridge Avenue, Letchworth. He was an errand boy prior to enlisting, 2nd March 1916 at Hertford into the Bedfordshire Regiment. He went to France 4th April 1918 and was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 7th April 1918. He was wounded in action, 28th August 1918 and died, 31st August 1918, at No. 29 Casualty Clearing Station, Gezaincourt, France.
Buried : Bagneux British Cemetery, Gezaincourt, France. Plot 6, Row E. Grave 2.
