Born at Melbourne, Derbyshire and lived at Derby. Son of Fredrick and Anne Jane Jones, of 87, Traffic Street, Derby. He was a packer in a clothing factory prior to enlisting 29th September 1911 at Derby. He was posted to the 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 28th July 1917 and went to France 29th July 1917. He suffered gunshot wounds to his face and hands, 5th October 1917 and was treated at 2/3rd North Midland Field Ambulance, 6th October 1917 and 18 Casualty Clearing Station, Lapugnoy, France. He was then transferred to the 22nd General Hospital, Camieres, France, 10th October 1917. He rejoined his battalion 19th February 1918 and was attached to the 129th Trench Mortar Battery, 17th July 1918. He was killed in action, 17th October 1918, aged 25, in the attack on the German position near Vaux-Andigny, France.
