Born and lived at Shirebrook, Derbyshire. Son of Alfred and Sarah Jane Jinks, of 34, Warren Terrace, Shirebrook. He enlisted at Shirebrook and joined the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He served in Gallipoli during 1915. He then went to France and was posted to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was killed in action 17th October 1916, aged 20. whilst serving in the line near Montauban, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
