He was born at Arnold, Nottingham and lived at Hardstaff’s Yard, Front Street, Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Grandson of Mrs. Sharpe. He was employed at J. Herring & Sons Ltd., builders in Arnold, Nottingham. He enlisted at Nottingham September 1915 and was killed in action during an attack at Proyart, France, 13th August 1918, age 24.
