Born at Openshaw, Manchester, Lancashire. Was a collier. Son of Hannah Elizabeth Oldfield, of 46 Milton Street, Coventry Road, Bulwell, Nottingham. He enlisted 8th February 1898 into the Derbyshire Regiment. He was appointed Lance Corporal 7th September 1914, Corporal 20th March 1915.

Died : 30th August 1915.
