Lance Corporal Harry Lane Ockleford

Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born in Grantham, Lincolnshire and lived at Guildhall Cottages, Shakespeare Street, Nottingham. Son of Thomas Henry and Mary E. Ockleford, of 56 Burlington Road, Thornton Heath, South London. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 21st April 1902 at Nottingham. He served in Singapore from the 5th November 1904 to 11th December 1906 and in India from 12th December 1906 to the 3rd October 1911. He left the Army in 1912 and re-enlisted on 3rd May 1913. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 18th October 1913. He went to France on 8th September 1914 and was killed in action on 20th September 1914, when the battalion was ordered to retake trenches taken by the Germans at the head of the Troyon Valley, France, during the Battle of the Aisne.
