Born at Swallows Nest Yorkshire. Son of Mr Benjamin Oakley, of 19, Seymour Terrace, Staveley, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 16th November 1914 at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He went to France on 18th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 16th September 1916, aged 33, during the attack on the German positions at Guillemont, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
