He was born at Eastwood, Nottinghamshire and lived at 11, Ebenezer Street, Langley Mill, Derbyshire. Husband of Betsy Evans, of 239, Valley Street, South Elmsalk, Pontefract, Yorkshire. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting 26th April 1915 at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He went to France 6th March 1916 and suffered gunshot wounds to both knees 10th October 1916. He was treated at 49 Casualty Clearing Station at Contay, France before being transferred to No. 6 British Red Cross Hospital, Etaples, France where he died, 30th October 1916, of wounds.
