Born and lived at Tapton View Road, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of George William and Lydia Ellse, of Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a plasterer prior to enlisting. Died of wounds at No.3 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, 12th April 1917, age 35.

Buried : Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 11. Row C. Grave 38A.
