Born and lived at Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Son of George and Eliza Ellis, of 159, Front Street, Arnold. Husband of Sarah Ann Ellis. He was a butchers assistant prior to enlisting at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, 9th April 1917, during the attack at Hill 60, near Ypres, Belgium.
