Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Samuel and Sarah Ann Wheatley (formerly Edwards), of 41, Duncombe Street, Nottingham. He was a baker prior to enlisting on 1st April 1915 at Nottingham. He went to France on 1st June 1916 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 17, during the attack at Gommecourt, France on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
