Born and lived at Matlock, Derbyshire. Son of of John Thomas and Bella Eakin, of Jackson Road, Matlock. He was a waiter at Smedley’s Hydrotherapy Complex, Matlock, prior to enlisting 19th June 1915 at Matlock. He went to France 14th April 1916. He was killed in Action 13th November 1916, aged 21, during the capture of the German positions at St Pierre Divion, France during the Battle of the Somme. He was awarded the Military Medal, London Gazette dat 19th February 1917:  “For gallantry in action on 13th November 1916 in the attack on St Pierre Divion”
