Born at Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. Son of Henry and Emma Bywater of Nottingham. Husband of Mary Adelaide Bywater. Was a professional soldier who enlisted at Nottingham. He was serving at Kolar Goldfield, South India when war broke out. He was killed when a German shell hit the barn he was billeted in on 17th November 1914.
